When I retired shortly after the COVID pandemic began. My wife asked me what I was going to do to keep busy while she was still working (I apparently was hovering and driving her a bit crazy).
I thought about various options, like golf, tennis, etc. but they all involved EXERCISE (I am not a huge fan of physically demanding activities). I decided to give her a “smart” answer and said, “Bird watching!” I figured that I could sit outside and just watch for birds to come to me. Easy peasy.
That is how I started taking photographs. I got some good ones, and then wanted better ones. So I got up off of my chair and started exploring the great frontier of my yard.
Some of those photos came out even better than I had imagined. People actually liked this stuff! After numerous compliments on my photos I decided to explore the world of photography even more. I was still really focusing on birds, but when something else that was interesting presented itself…I, of course, snapped some photos.
I now see the world through a lens a lot, and am really enjoying taking photos and the thrill of getting that really good shot. I am even willing to walk a ways to do it!
